Colle della Lombarda is renowned as a challenging mountain pass and route due to its hairpin bends, steep slopes, and narrow road width. Located at the border between Italy and France, it may not see heavy traffic, but its unique characteristics demand careful attention and caution. On the flip side, it rewards travelers with truly unforgettable views and photo opportunities.

Starting from Vinadio, take SP255 heading south through thick woods. It's a deep immersion in nature, offering a breath of fresh and pure air, especially in the height of summer. As you ascend towards the mountains, you'll undoubtedly notice the magnificent complex rising from the peaks—the Sanctuary of Sant'Anna di Vinadio. Dating back to the 17th century, it's considered the highest sanctuary in Europe, sitting at an altitude of 2,035 meters above sea level.

The ascent to the pass ranks among the most captivating climbs in the Alps. As you ascend, the vegetation gradually gives way, revealing the grandeur of the mountain range. The pass resembles a plateau, and here, surrounded by silence and just a few meters from the sky, you can capture splendid photos and admire those who have the strength to reach your position by bike.

Useful Tips and Variations: Once you've crossed the border, you can make a stop, perhaps for lunch, at Isola 2000, a ski resort located in the Val di Ciastiglione in the French commune of Isola. Constructed in the 1970s, it may lack architecture that seamlessly blends with the landscape but enjoys a privileged position for both weather conditions and views. On the clearest days, you can even catch a glimpse of the Côte d'Azur.

From there, you can explore other routes such as Colle di Nava, Col de Turini, and Colle della Fauniera.
