The Passo del Cerreto, which runs through the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park, is a popular route for cyclists and motorcyclists. Nearby Monte La Nuda rises to 1,895 meters, home to Cerreto Laghi near a glacial lake, popular for winter sports. The itinerary starts in Sarzana, where a visit to the Sarzanello fortress is recommended, then takes the SS62 to Aulla, starting the main route on state road 63 of the Valico del Cerreto. Following the Aulella torrent to Rometta and stopping at Fivizzano to appreciate its prehistoric heritage, the journey reveals breathtaking panoramas. The 19 km ascent to the pass, with gradients ranging from 8 to 8.7%, reaches an altitude of 1261 metres, making it one of the highest passes in the region. The descent into Emilia offers magnificent views, from the Po valley at Vezzano sul Crostolo to the finish in Reggio Emilia, where a plate of tortellini is the perfect end to this journey.
