Discover the beauty of the Col de Montgenèvre, one of the most spectacular passes between Italy and France. This picturesque route offers winding bends and breathtaking panoramas.
The itinerary starts in Italy, allowing you to cover kilometres rich in curves and history along the Milky Way. It then takes you to Briançon, the highest town in Europe, in France.
Once used by the Romans and part of the Via Domitia, an ancient trade route, the Col de Montgenèvre has a rich history. It is even said to have been used by Hannibal's Carthaginian army in 218 BC to enter Italy.
Briançon, perched strategically near the Durance gorges, was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1692 by the famous military architect Vauban. Its location offers more than six hours of light a day for three hundred days a year, making it an ideal place to treat respiratory illnesses.
Your journey begins in Cesana Torinese, Italy, on the SS24, also known as the Montgenèvre national road. You'll pass through Claviere, enter France via the N94 and reach the summit of the pass. After passing through a tunnel, you'll descend on the French side, enjoying gentle curves through the forest to Briançon, where you can explore its picturesque historic centre. An unforgettable adventure awaits you.
